MY EXPERIENCES IN COMMUNITY WORK

On 1st June, 2015, I joined Blantyre Institute for Community Ophthalmology now Blantyre Institute for Community Outreach (BICO). I joined the organization as Trainee in ICT & Data management but currently working as a Project Assistant in ICT & Data Management. Ever since I was young I have always loved working with the community and getting involved in community activities. With community work, you get to know people well, (the needs and what they are able to do) you understand the different cultures and different behaviors of people and community work boosts one’s interaction with people, among others. Among other achievements in community work; I founded Dedza Active Youth Organization (DAYO) with 3 other colleagues. The organization was established in 2005 when I was 15 years old. The organization is still in operation up to date and as an organization we have achieved a lot. It was through this organization that I got exposed to national youth networks like being a member of the Youth Act Alliance Malawi (YAA), The World Bank Youth Network – Malawi now called Youth to Youth Empowerment (Y2Y). I have led the southern chapter of Malawi as a Southern region coordinator for Y2Y Empowerment for a year. I have held many more leadership positions as of today. The interest to work with communities is still high in me and I am so thankful that I joined BICO where am mostly involved in community work. In 13 months, I have travelled a lot and I have met different people with different cultures, life styles etc. I have also had a chance to discover some things that I had never seen. I will start sharing write ups of what I have discovered right here on my blog starting from next week, one write up every Friday. Discover & Learn!
